Supporting Customer Interaction, Feedback and Information  


Context

Developments in advanced 3-d computer modelling, virtual environments with touch and sound cues and communication technologies suggest new possibilities in the selling of vehicles.
Current selling methods requires an investment in a physical showroom which nevertheless can carry only a limited stock.
Buyers can feel pressurised in the showroom environment.


Aims

To determine factors present in current car sales patterns
To study the psychology of human/computer interaction in the selling process
To define possible levels of functionality for an acceptable display system
To determine the required fidelity both visual and auditory
To devise an interface that is easy to use
To integrate software and hardware solutions and test against a customer focus group
To conduct technical demonstrations and explain conclusions


Method

A series of qualitative studies will be conducted including questionnaires, interviews and technical studies.
Operational factors relating to user interaction will be established.
Technical parameters and capabilities relating to appropriate technologies will be determined.
Measurement and assessment models will be developed against which virtual models can interfaces can be evaluated


Benefits

The project will fundamentally improve the communication between customer and manufacturer. It will give the buying public access to qualitative information delivered in a visually exciting and credible manner. In moving from the present show room convention, the manufacturer will be able to establish a presence in crowded retail environments such as airports, stations or shopping centres at which a wide range of vehicles can be demonstrated in a variety of simulated environments.
