Context A DSRC would allow relevant messages to be sent to specific vehicles and data that is potentially useful to other vehicles to be collected. Information could include warnings of hazards ahead and advice on avoiding congestion. Aims To create a national test facility for further work on DSRC systems. Method Install a demonstration DSRC along the motorway between Gatwick and Swansea. Equip a number of vehicles (both private and PSV) with transmitters and receivers Demonstrate the successful operation of the system and the type of messages that could be carried. Benefits Developers of equipment and systems will be able to use the test facility in the creation of new products.
